The monthly jazz sessions at the Bocabar in Glastonbury has established
itself as the place to be for great food and live jazz. This month we have a
double bill featuring the cool music of Blue Note Records and the sound of swinging
guitars.
The Sound of Blue Note is a quintet hailing from Wiltshire
who have been making their presence felt in the jazz scene all over the country.
Their impressive live shows and authentic style has gained them many accolades
from the jazz establishment.
‘The Sound Of Blue Note takes its lead from the greatest
jazz recordings on the iconic jazz label. However, this is no slavish
copy. The band perform gems from a treasure trove of originals from the
likes of Freddie Hubbard, Hank Mobley, Lee Morgan and others but retains
an identity, impressively, of its own. Slick ensemble passages
alternate with inspired solos to bring this exceptional material very much
to life! This may be a celebration of a golden musical age but in a
modern and very relevant context.' -Alan Barnes 'I'm always pleased to get a call to play with the Sound of Blue Note. The guys play with energy & commitment & the audiences always seem to love the music!' - Mark Nightingale
We are also featuring the Madelin Veale trio as the support
act on the night. Richard Madelin and Terry Veale are two of the best exponents
of jazz guitar in the Sound West taking their influence from the legendary Wes
Montgomery and Jim Hall. Playing numbers from the Great American Songbook,
expect strong melodies, rich harmonies and plenty of swing.
